The kittens are using Rubbermaids by the time they leave.  We get these from Goodwill for $1. The tall walls are ideal for a large cat and prevents spillage. You can cut a cute door and place a light on the top; or just use it open like we have with a little stair for the littles. 

Grooming is essential to maintain healthy coat hair and not get painful matts. Brushing once a week is a healthy habit, and some cats may love this as a reward system and everyday love may happen. We recommend soft brushes, nothing that feels like it hurts to your hand. We use hand brushes that are made for women to not pull their hair out. We also use a shed ease on adults around season changes. 

This may sound shocking, but we have not gone downbathing thing road with the cats, even if they are Maine Coons are welcome to bathe your cat; and they may enjoy the water and water time. For us; water and humans are for play and necessary heath care. We chose with our vet's encouragement, not to place the cats under the stress of having a bath just to smell good. Our cats are clean and well groomed; as cats often self manage well.

Maine Coons are known to have bad teeth; although our cats have all been healthy so far; knock on wood. There are several additives you have place in their water to make sure they have healthy teeth. Ask you vet. We ask that you only add in EXTRA care and make health decisions after at least a week of having your kitten. We really want to make sure their mental health is ok before changing their physical. Practicing with a tooth brush is on YouTube and very possible with Maine Coons.
